Overcoming Evil with Good in the USA

August 12, 2019

As the USA faces tragedy in the recent mass shootings, including a shooting reportedly directed at Hispanics in El Paso, I am reminded of all the good our ministry is doing towards Latinos in northwest San Antonio.

As you might remember, apart from the MM overseas work, we have been part of a team effort in launching a new church in San Antonio. Since this city is largely Latino, anywhere you plant a church, if you reach the community, you will have lots of Latinos in your congregation! Four years ago we hired a new church planting pastor named Mike Kraft. God called him from Connecticut to reach Latinos in San Antonio. Imagine that, a “Yankee” reaching Latinos! God does have a sense of humor! Currently they are meeting at a YMCA and have over 120 people attending church each Sunday. Many of the congregants have never heard the gospel before. Some were on drugs and had other addictions. Amidst all the hate spewed out on the internet, God is saving Latinos here! As we taper off our support for this church, we hope to start other Latino congregations, including one in El Paso some day! Paul said this about evil: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21). Let us work hard each day doing that very thing. For eternal hope in Christ is the best gift we can offer people in this mixed up fallen world.
